Gerund adalah kata kerja yang berfungs sebagai kata benda. Contoh:
- I enjoy playing tennis. I enjoy
playtennis” tidak benar. - We practice speaking English every day.
- They just bought a new swimming pool.
Dalam bahasa Inggris infinitive dibentuk dari to dan kata kerja. Contoh:
- I want to learn a new language.
- You forgot to close the door.
Kata kerja sering diikuti dengan infinitif atau gerund dan memilih yang mana yang harus digunakan memiliki beberapa kaidah tetap, tergantung utamanya pada kata kerja individual.
